Visa Run Feb 2007

The Chiang Mai Royal Flora Expo too place during November 2006 until the end of January 2007
Wat Rong Khun is just south of Chiang Rai. It was designed by Thai artist Chalermchai Kositpipat and built mostly during 2005.
I routinely have to go out of Thailand to get some kind of visa. Here's the trip to Vientiane in Laos during mid February 2007.
View of Vientiane frtom across the Mekong River. Doesn't exactly look like a nations capital, does it?
The road between Nong Khai and Chiang Khan is appropriately marked as a scenic route.
The Mekong along this route is so dry this time of year (Feb) that you can walk across it.
Laos-style chedi at a temple near the small town of Thali in Loei Province.
Inside the temple is a stuffed two-headed calf.
Near Thali is the Bannakraseng border crossing to a remote corner of Laos. Foreigners can actually pass here, but there is no public transport onward and the next town is about 200km.
... and a little bit further down the road is Luang Prabang.
It's actually Thailand's 2nd highest peak, Phu Soi Dao
Lonely mountain sunset somewhere in Nan Province.
Here's another remote border crossing to Laos, this one at the Thai town of Huay Khon. Foreigners can only pass here with a tour group or with letters of approval from the local authorities.
The sign at the Huay Khon border indicates that this crossing is the gateway to Indochina - Hong Sa and Luang Prabang, Muang La in China, and Vietnam. Funny there seemed to be no one crossing here.
Giant figures at Wat Suton Pana Kiri in Phrae Province, near the town of Denchai.
At the city of Phayao is a huge lake, with good scenery and sunsets.
One night in Vientiane. I have buckets more pics of Laos elsewhere.
We will soon have a cafe. First have to cover up those ugly yellow walls!
The resort next door is actually statrting to look like something. We've been listening to construction noise 12 hours/day, 7 days/week for the past 14 months.

March 14 2007 - we're in the midst of the worst pollution haze in many years. I'm hiding inside until we get some rain.
