September is low tourist season in Thailand, and is also the peak of the rainy season.  So it's a good time to shut down and take a mini-break.  We drove a car for a roughly 4000km (2500 mile) spin around NE and NW Thailand in some pretty quiet areas with lots of lush green scenery, water buffalos, and farming vehicles.  I took about 1000 pictures, but here are some of them.  Click below to see each part of the trip.
Below is a Google Earth view of the places we visited.  It also shows (without borders) how close Yangon (Burma/Myanmar) is (about 230 miles from Chiang Mai) when on this date (September 27th, 2007) there are large pro-democracy protests, riots, arrests, and some killings taking place there.  I'm glued to the TV and internet and we here in Chiang Mai are hoping for the best possible outcome and sympathise with those who are under military suppression.
