The Saynamkhan Hotel, overlooking the Khan river which meets the Mekong at Luang Prabang. I always liked the look of this hotel on previous visits and this time around we got the big corner room.
Nice view from the window - the Khan River in front and Wat Phra Phutthabhat temple on the right.
The mostly Hmong hilltribe night market, which started happening a couple years ago and now occurs nightly. It's one of the few changes to Luang Prabang's otherwise well-preserved scene.
It's a great place to see by bike
Boat trip to a Hmong village with manditory snake whiskey (there's one with a big gekko too) and then onto the ancient Pak Ou cave.
The Kuang Si waterfall is beautiful and always picturesque. The water was running a tad low compared to previous visits - In November it is huge!
The tiger is still being held near the waterfall. It's controversial, but they can't exactly set him free - he'd get poached just like his parents.
Good views from across the Mekong
Many hotels are modeled on the old French buidlings
Scenes at Wat Xieng Thong
Just as we saw the boatload of travellers leaving Huay Sai in the slow boat, here is another boatload arriving in Luang Prabang, They are always met by scores of guesthouse touts and tuk tuk drivers. From here travellers often head south by road to Vientiane, usually with a stop in controversially successful Vang Vieng.
