Norway

The first time I came to Norway was in the Spring of 1999, on a ship from Newcastle to Bergen, as a foot passenger.  I paid 70 pounds for the 24-hour passage and endured the typical English patronage of hopelesslessly drunken fools en-route...  terrible on-board resident band, screaming kids, and beer-swillers who kept me up all night.  This time was much better.  I drove up from Germany through Denmark and Sweden, and spent a month in Norway.  My Car broke down in the middle of the fjords and I had to come back, but I saw a lot of this beautiful (and outrageously expensive) country.
A sailboat race on a sunny saturday gives many people an extra excuse to relax at the harbourside.
For many years in my childhood I saw the book "Kon Tiki" on the bookshelf, and came to know about Thor Heyerdahl, who died earlier that year.  It was very meaningful to at last see the craft he took across the south Pacific.
