| Animal life is a big reason for coming to South Africa, and with a little effort you can experience quite a variety and abundance of interesting creatures. I spent three days in Kruger National Park and did day-trips to Hluhluwe-Umfolozi and the St. Lucia Wetlands. I also spent time in the Hlane and Mlilwane National Parks in Swaziland. Between these five parks I managed to see four of the "Big-5" (we'll get the leopard next time!) and many other animals including giraffe, hippo, impala, ostrich, warthog, wildebeest, zebra, etc. Other than the baboons and vervet monkeys I saw many times in the wild areas, I also got to experience many non-native monkey species at a sanctuary called "Monkeyland", on the south coast near Plettenberg Bay. I hope the pictures inspire you to go to these places and/or learn more about the animals. |
